Jean K was swimming at a state park lake in 1971 with her four-year-old son and a friend when she suddenly felt faint while walking back to their blanket. She lost consciousness and was carried to the medical building by a man. During her unconscious state, she experienced being unable to speak despite mentally trying to tell everyone she was okay. She felt surrounded by beautiful light blue sky and heard someone say "I can't feel her pulse and there is no heartbeat," confirmed by a second voice. She experienced herself at a different level from those around her, trying unsuccessfully to communicate. Her body moved to a sitting position and she saw a beautiful bright light in the sky, feeling very good and safe. She regained consciousness in an ambulance. Years later, while taking a college course on "Death and Dying" taught by Sister M who knew Elizabeth Kubler Ross, Jean shared her experience. Elizabeth Kubler Ross confirmed it was a near-death experience.
