Graham was involved in a road accident outside his workplace when attempting to cross a main road. A police motorcycle was blocking traffic on one side, and he thought it was safe to cross, but an object moving at great speed approached him. His vision became brighter until it was pure white, then he found himself floating over his body but facing the opposite direction, moving down the road he had just walked but in reverse. He experienced this floating sensation for approximately thirty seconds. When he regained consciousness, he was on the ground with a broken leg, fractured hand, and head injury. He learned he had been conscious with eyes open during the event, though he only recalled the OBE. Bystanders thought he was dead because of his open eyes. Following the accident, he experienced multiple OBEs in the hospital over several weeks, characterized by paralysis sensations, buzzing noises, and his hand separating from his body. These OBEs continued occasionally after discharge, occurring less than three times per year. He later found that cannabis could reproduce part of the effect, bringing him to the point where he felt ready to leave his body again.
