Gene J suffered a massive heart attack on June 16, 2003, while mowing his lawn. He was defibrillated multiple times in the ambulance after cardiac arrest. During this time, he experienced floating through darkness toward a growing bright white light that surrounded him. He found himself standing in an ultra-bright white glowing room so peaceful he didn't want to leave. He felt overwhelming comfort, warmth, and like he belonged there. He instantly gained knowledge and had no doubts about what was happening.
The room had white sheets creating walls of dancing light. At one end was an opening with a blowing white curtain revealing lush green foliage beyond. As he moved toward it, he heard voices calling his name and returned to consciousness in the hospital. He learned he had suffered the "Widow Maker" heart attack with a third of his heart destroyed, requiring major open-heart surgery. In the hospital, when his daughter gave him a crucifix, Gene was overwhelmed by what he described as the Holy Spirit consuming his being. He felt God-like and all-knowing. Later, he was compelled by this power to pray with a woman whose husband was in a coma, physically transferring divine strength through their clasped hands while holding his crucifix. He felt the power of God move through him to her.
