Around 1978-79, when Donnie was 9 or 10 years old, he was playing with other children, jumping off a semi-truck in a yard. Whether pushed or having fallen, he suddenly found himself above the yard looking down on his motionless body from an estimated 70-100 feet high, above the large tree. He could see the other kids still running around playing, unaware he was hurt. The experience was peaceful, warm, and quiet. Within seconds, he was back in his body, jumped up holding his broken arm, and started crying. He kept the experience secret for years, not wanting to sound crazy, until seeing a TV special about NDEs made him realize others had similar experiences. The experience gave him a beautiful sense of peace about death, showing him that if heaven feels like what he experienced, he has no fear of dying.
