Bill underwent emergency triple bypass surgery after doctors discovered 85% and 95% occlusion in his main heart arteries. He died twice on the operating table. During his first death, he instantly appeared in an extraordinarily beautiful place with grass so intensely green it hurt to look at yet felt wonderful. He could taste the grass (like watermelon) by feeling it. His senses were synesthetic and heightened beyond normal perception.
Three yellow light presences appeared from beside a pine tree, communicating telepathically that he could stay or return, but if returning, he had to do something. Remembering he hadn't said goodbye to his children made him overwhelmingly sad, prompting his return. He briefly returned to his body experiencing excruciating pain before dying again. The second time, he met his deceased grandmother Memé, who appeared young and vibrant. She told him he couldn't stay but would accompany him back. Upon returning, Memé's presence appeared as a light above the operating lights, blocking his pain. Bill later opened Cody's Castle, a Dungeons & Dragons den for children, fulfilling his mission. He developed extensive psychic abilities including healing powers, precognition, and spirit communication.
