Dennis G experienced a near-death event during a catastrophic car accident on June 12, 1977, while traveling from Baltimore to Hollywood, California. His companion fell asleep at the wheel in Arizona, causing the car to leave the road at approximately 80 mph to avoid a head-on collision with a vehicle that had crossed the median. The car rolled multiple times down a large hill, partially tearing out the engine. Dennis, who had removed his seatbelt to stretch out, was violently thrown around and went through the windshield, suffering a concussion, badly sprained shoulder, and head lacerations.
When his friend cried out "Oh my GOD!" Dennis felt a floating sensation followed by terrible impact. Time seemed to stand still as he experienced passing through a black hole with deafening whooshing sounds, seeing a bright light at the tunnel's end. He found himself floating above his body, observing his friend frantically trying to revive him using "any means possible." From his elevated vantage point approximately thirty feet in the air, he experienced unprecedented serenity and could see the extensive crash scene spread across a wide area. He felt part of the wind rather than having a physical form. His friend successfully resuscitated him, causing Dennis to feel like he was falling back into a black hole. Upon returning, he looked into his friend's eyes as he exclaimed "My God, I got you back!" Only then did Dennis feel the severe pain from his injuries. The state police arrived and he walked to the patrol car with great difficulty.
