Following surgery in 1964, Della died from a reaction to medications and was clinically dead. Her soul left her body and she observed herself from the southeast corner of the hospital room ceiling. She watched as nurses and doctors worked frantically to revive her - one nurse repeatedly pumping the blood pressure cuff while another fetched the crash cart. Three doctors and five nurses ultimately filled the room. She saw specific details including a doctor and nurse preparing a syringe with a long needle to inject into her heart.
From her vantage point near the ceiling, she found the nurse's repeated attempts with the blood pressure cuff amusing, comparing it to watching Keystone Cops. She felt complete peace, warmth, love and comfort with no fear of death, feeling more than willing to continue on.
