During surgery in April 1988, Cathy H was clinically dead for a couple of minutes, though doctors didn't inform her at the time. She was very ill after surgery and out of it for a week. Two years later, a nurse who was present told her mother they had lost her for a couple of minutes and she was lucky to still have her daughter. During the experience, Cathy came out of darkness into bright light filled with peace and love. She saw Jesus dressed in white, holding her five-year-old son who had died two years earlier in an accident. Jesus put the boy down and he came to embrace his mother. Despite intense joy at the reunion, Cathy told her son she could see he was happy and in good hands with Jesus, but she had to return to help his nine-year-old sister get through life. Her son understood, and she returned feeling torn and sad to leave. The experience gave her absolute knowledge that Jesus is real, heaven exists, and the most important things are family, helping others, and doing one's best with love. She now has no fear of death and feels occasional communication from her deceased son. Her faith transformed from belief to knowledge, and she joined the Mormon Church.
