Augustin, a male on active military duty in Melilla in April 1980, experienced clinical death following an allergic reaction to a penicillin injection administered for cold and fever. After the injection, he lost consciousness and experienced what medical staff later confirmed was clinical death.
During his NDE, Augustin experienced a profound out-of-body experience where he observed his body from above, watching orderlies alarmed and placing him on a cot while making comments. He felt an extraordinary liberation from his physical body, describing it as being released from a lifetime sentence or jail. He traveled at tremendous speed through darkness toward a tiny star or light that grew larger as he approached. The veridical observations included seeing the room from above as it "folded in from the ceiling," observing the orderlies' reactions and their attempts to revive him. He clearly witnessed their placement of his body on the cot and heard their comments about his condition. He entered a brilliant white light of pure energy, love, and life where he encountered beings of light who communicated telepathically. A primary being told him he must return as it was not yet his time, saying "You still have things to do with your love." Upon return, Augustin became conscious of breathing again, felt the nurses' voices, and reluctantly re-entered his body.
