Sébastien experienced two separate NDEs, first at age 14 (1989) and again at age 21 (1996). Both involved chest pain and loss of consciousness.
First Experience (1989): While lying in bed ready to sleep, Sébastien felt intense chest pain. He then lifted upward toward the left corner of his room, surrounded by non-dazzling light more intense at the upper angle. He felt peaceful, safe, and relieved, experiencing a wellbeing that felt familiar and natural. Though he saw no beings, he didn't feel alone. He understood he was leaving permanently but felt this was normal. However, hearing his mother's voice from the adjacent bedroom (unusually clear despite the distance) triggered intense feelings of love for her and memories of their relationship. This pulled him back, and he woke in a sweat, immediately deciding not to discuss the experience. Second Experience (1996): During a weekend party after little food or sleep, Sébastien fainted in front of six or seven friends. He was immediately aware of where he was and was happy about departing. He was propelled at high speed through a tunnel of substantial light with walls of mist or cloud. The peace and wellbeing were mixed with sadness about how difficult it is to achieve this state on earth. He heard diffuse music and was determined not to return. His friend's persistent voice calling "Sébastien, stay with us, come back!" brought images of loving moments with family and friends. These memories felt identical to his current state of peace, creating an intense desire not to abandon these people. He was then disagreeably dragged back through the tunnel at high speed. Upon return, he lifted his chest screaming, then fainted again while friends held him and tried to revive him. Both experiences convinced him that this state of peace and understanding is natural, simple, and what humans are meant to achieve and share on earth. An elderly woman later approached him, confirming his experience was normal and encouraging him to accomplish his purpose. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The experiences contain several biblical elements including the bright divine light, the tunnel or pathway to the afterlife, overwhelming peace and love consistent with God's presence, and the sense of divine purpose in returning. The statement that achieving this state on earth is "simple" may underestimate the biblical teaching about humanity's need for salvation and divine grace. The lack of judgment, life review, or moral dimension differs from biblical teachings about accountability after death.
