On April 4, 2003, Roger M suffered a severe accident, falling approximately fifteen feet and going through a plate glass window. The fall resulted in multiple broken bones and complete laceration of all major arteries in his right arm, causing massive blood loss that brought him to clinical death. He remained unconscious for three days, regaining consciousness on April 7.
During the moments after losing consciousness, Roger experienced a profound transformation of existence. As shock set in and blood poured from his severed arteries, he felt extreme cold and his breathing became increasingly shallow. He distinctly remembers taking his last breath, after which his entire spectrum of existence changed completely. The coldness was instantly replaced by the warmest feeling he had ever known - not external heat, but warmth from within his being. All earthly pressures, fears, and emotions lifted, replaced by indescribable peace and tranquility. Roger's senses merged into one all-inclusive awareness. He perceived everything as the most intense light imaginable - hundreds of times brighter than the sun yet not painful to experience. This light was the source of everything, and Roger became one with it in a way that transcended human understanding. He describes the reunion with this source as souls being "part of an atom that had been split with all the destructive force of the universe and then suddenly come back to form a single atom again." This atom contained every experience ever thought, felt, or imagined. Nothing beckoned or persuaded him; souls simply know where they belong. Upon returning to consciousness three days later, Roger experienced profound grief - not for missing his family (as the experience seemed to last only minutes) but because he had absolute knowledge of the beautiful awareness that follows this life.
