Pietro B experienced an NDE in October 2005 during his third surgery in twenty days. During the life-threatening surgical event, he felt thrown into space with a perfect vision of moving away from Earth and entering a very bright light. Simultaneously, he had a clear vision of his life on Earth appearing like a two-dimensional screen.
Pietro was conscious throughout the experience and felt increasing happiness and endless peace while approaching the light. He knew he was part of the light and that everyone is part of it, though he couldn't explain how he knew this. At the climax, he understood that entering the light completely would mean no return. Despite strong feelings not to return and complete indifference toward loved ones and worldly things (which struck him deeply), he was suddenly pulled back into his body. The experience featured a road of very white, pure light leading to an inner circle of very bright light representing a point of no return. He experienced indescribable feelings of peace, harmony, incredible joy, and a sense of unity with the universe. He gained understanding about everything in the universe and knew that bodily life on Earth is only temporary. Since the experience, Pietro reports increased sensitivity and psychic visions. He continues having flashes of the experience, feeling like pieces of a puzzle falling into place. His life is changing, and he perceives people differently, hearing falseness in their voices when they speak about things they don't truly feel.
