Dr. Mikel R, an intensivist and emergency physician with over 30 years experience, had an NDE on February 17, 2006, during post-operative recovery. Following surgery, he experienced severe respiratory depression in the recovery room with oxygen saturation dropping to 77% (normal >95%), combined with the worst pain he had ever felt. He was nearly placed on a ventilator due to breathing difficulties.
During his NDE, Mikel clearly left his body and observed the scene from above, seeing a nurse with noticeable facial hair telling him to "BREATHE!"
