Madison was in a car accident in May 1981, rolling her vehicle and suffering a concussion. She experienced going through a dark tunnel filled with thick fog while in a horizontal swimming position. Looking down through what seemed like a Plexiglas tube, she could see the earth twelve to fifteen feet below. She observed her overturned car with wheels spinning and stereo blasting.
