Marco was hospitalized with serious pancreatitis and given little time to live. Around 2:00 AM on June 26, 2002, he entered a pre-coma state that medical staff expected, remaining unconscious for six hours. During this time, he experienced passing through a huge dark tunnel toward a brilliant light, feeling his body lighter and almost brittle. He felt incredible warmth and peace as he traveled, with soft air waving through his hair. Time had no meaning in this state - minutes could last hours or hours could pass in milliseconds. He briefly disconnected from his earthly body, observing a doctor or nurse bent over him from what seemed to be a ceiling corner. Upon reaching the light, he encountered his grandmother who had died six years earlier. She placed her hand on his forehead at the entrance to the light and told him, "Go back - not yet! I'll always be there waiting for you - don't worry!" He then passed back through the tunnel in what felt like a thousandth of a second and opened his eyes to find his father stroking his forehead.
