In April 1992, at age 39, Lennie experienced his first heart attack after two weeks of chest pain he had dismissed. Despite severe symptoms, he drove himself to work and attempted to continue cooking as head chef before colleagues convinced him to seek emergency care. He drove himself 60 kilometers to the hospital, losing consciousness upon arrival. After being rushed to intensive care with blood pressure of 220/135, his heart stopped Tuesday night, prompting emergency transport to Gothenburg where his heart stopped again during attempted balloon procedure.
During clinical death, Lennie observed himself lying on the bed while simultaneously moving toward a wonderful light. He described floating rather than walking toward this warm, joyful place filled with love beyond description - a realm without stress, demands, or evil. Everything was beauty and warmth with wonderful verdure. As he stood ready to cross over, he heard someone repeatedly calling "Lennie come back, you are needed here." Turning, he saw the most beautiful woman he had ever seen standing at his right side, with stunning eyes and perfect features. Despite being happily married, he felt drawn to embrace her. She humbly begged him to stay, saying they needed him. Unable to resist her plea, he turned around and woke in his body. About an hour later, Lennie asked staff about this nurse, but was told no such person existed or had ever worked there. He wondered if she was his guardian angel. The experience fundamentally changed his life values - he now appreciates small things, finds life fantastic, and no longer fears death, knowing it represents a new phase at another level. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The experience includes classic NDE elements consistent with biblical accounts: out-of-body experience, movement toward divine light, a beautiful heavenly realm, and an angelic being calling him back for a purpose. The transformative aftereffects including loss of death fear and changed values align with genuine spiritual encounters. The possibility of a guardian angel matches biblical teaching about ministering spirits. Unbiblical elements: None identified. While the beautiful woman could be interpreted various ways, guardian angels are biblical, and there's no inappropriate spiritual content. The experience remains within orthodox Christian parameters without promoting reincarnation, universalism, or occult practices.
