Karen G experienced respiratory collapse and clinical death on May 11, 2005, following a severe allergic reaction to a corticoid injection given for bronchitis and asthma. Within five minutes of receiving the injection, she developed severe breathing problems and lost consciousness upon leaving her house. She arrived at Santa Maria Clinic with no pulse and in complete respiratory collapse, requiring resuscitation with adrenaline and electroshock.
During her NDE, Karen found herself in a tunnel of diffuse, beautiful lights, feeling as though she was in a high-speed train leaning back in a seat. She saw thousands of light spirals passing rapidly beside her and was frightened by the speed. At the end of the tunnel, she observed a very strong light with a golden frame and Roman columns with the infinity symbol. As she approached, the light grew stronger, and she understood that passing through this entryway meant no return. Throughout the experience, thousands of voices spoke to her simultaneously, urging her to "let go, abandon yourself," but Karen resisted, repeatedly thinking "Not yet. I am dying. Not yet." She felt anguished because she didn't want to go to the light. When the medical team administered adrenaline and used electroshock, the train stopped and reversed at the same speed. A voice from behind told her, "Not yet. It is not your moment yet." The train slowed until it stopped completely, her body arched and fell back on the hospital bed. Upon awakening, Karen immediately told the nurse "I died," who confirmed "Yes, but you are now here." She learned that police (carabineros) had escorted her to the clinic, though her mother perceived them as angels.
