Jeanne was hit from behind by a drunk driver traveling over 100 mph with no headlights at 3:55 AM on Highway I-10 in Southern California on June 29, 1987. She was ejected from her pickup truck and thrown over 200 feet, suffering two broken femurs, a broken hip, fractured ribs, arm partially torn off, and facial cuts. While lying on the highway before the ambulance arrived, she experienced an NDE. She found herself walking down a dark street that seemed familiar, feeling lost and knowing she should be home. Turning a corner, she saw a beautiful little house with all lights on, a white picket fence, and a yard full of people welcoming her with tremendous love and warmth. She felt her deceased father's presence among the group. It was the best place she had ever been. Then a man's voice asked if she was ready to go. She answered no, saying she needed to say goodbye to her two children. Her deceased relatives communicated that she needed to take care of them. Immediately upon saying no, she was back in her body feeling all the pain. The accident report stated she never lost consciousness. EMTs who didn't expect her to survive later visited her in ICU. Notably, this was her second NDE - she had heard the same man's voice asking if she wanted to go when near death at age 21 while giving birth.
