At age sixteen, Jessica experienced an NDE during a severe asthma attack in the middle of the night. She had a cold that made breathing difficult, and was tossing, turning, and gasping for breath when she suddenly separated from her body. She found herself hovering toward a sparkling bright light and looked down once more at her lifeless body before opting for the light. Jessica entered what felt like an endless tunnel that was comfortably warm where she knew she would be all right. In the light, she encountered her deceased grandmother who was holding out her hand toward her, though her vision of her grandmother was blurred and not entirely clear. Her grandmother communicated important information about Jessica's future, specifically that she would need to take care of her mother because her mother's boyfriend would become an alcoholic. Jessica felt tremendous love and warmth in this place, describing it as the best place she had ever been with everyone welcoming her and being glad to see her.
