In July 1961, five-year-old Jared was visiting his aunt's lake cabin when he fell off a long boat pier into the lake. Unable to swim, he initially floundered in the water, swallowing large amounts while calling for his mother. He noticed himself starting to float under the pier and calmly realized that no one would be able to reach him in time if he went too far underneath. Rather than panic, he felt remarkably calm and uncaring about his predicament.
After going face-down in the water, Jared suddenly found himself outside and below his own body. From this vantage point beneath himself, he could clearly see his body floating face-down above him. Now a clinical psychologist with 25 years of experience, Jared has never previously shared this experience. Despite his professional knowledge of psychological explanations for such phenomena and his natural skepticism about paranormal events, he remains convinced this was a genuine out-of-body experience.
