In August 1989, Sarah was bicycling home around 10 PM when she was struck from behind by a pickup truck traveling at 50 mph. She was catapulted 60 feet through the air, suffering collapsed lungs, ruptured internal organs, and broken pelvis and ribs. She went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance. During her NDE, she experienced complete darkness, then noticed a pinprick of light and humming sound approaching. It became a demonic creature surrounded by flames with huge eyes and teeth, appearing menacing. As it approached, she stood her ground and it passed painlessly through her body, laughing with glee. Two more demon creatures passed through her similarly. She entered a gray cloud-like tunnel with doorways, her body replaced by a blue-white pulsing cross/star form. The first doorway showed a classic Hell with shrieking souls, torture, and excrement pools. She felt drawn in but could leave at will, sensing the inhabitants stayed by their own belief. Another doorway showed depressed souls walking alone on barren ground. She encountered a beautiful garden world but was told "You do not have the information to enter this world." She entered a light experiencing absolute joy and learned she is eternal and chooses her experiences. A being discussed her options, warning that passing through one door meant no return. She heard voices saying "Don't go Sarah! What about Zane?" (her 5-year-old son). She awoke in the hospital full of joy despite severe injuries.
