Gary, age 17, experienced a scuba diving accident in Corona Del Mar, California in 1972 when both his primary oxygen and reserve air failed at 40 feet underwater. Unable to get his friends' attention for buddy breathing, he blacked out after 5-10 minutes without air according to witnesses who saw him change from light brown to blue to grey. During his extensive NDE, Gary observed his body from above the beach, seeing their equipment and ice chest. He traveled northwest over Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, attempting to measure his movement with his diving watch, discovering non-linear time distortion. He floated above his home, sensing his mother's grief in the kitchen. At Rose Hill Cemetery, he encountered a Hispanic guide with a mustache who showed him his own funeral with his parents, sister, girlfriend and friends present. A beautiful land appeared with glowing plants, three-tailed birds, and unusual trees. Jesus Christ then appeared, walking down invisible stairs, appearing as a slender man with blue robe and golden blonde curly hair. Jesus communicated telepathically, saying Gary would have a long life and work to do through him. Gary chose to return and immediately found himself back underwater with his friends.

--- Biblical Summary ---
Biblical elements: This experience contains numerous biblical elements including a direct encounter with Jesus Christ who communicated divine purpose and promised long life. The telepathic communication reflects spiritual rather than physical interaction. The beautiful otherworldly realm with glowing vegetation could represent paradise or heaven. The presence of a guide figure could represent an angel. The choice between continuing to the divine realm or returning for earthly purpose aligns with biblical themes of divine mission and God's sovereignty over life and death.

Unbiblical elements: The detailed physical description of Jesus differs from biblical accounts where his appearance is not emphasized. The ability to observe one's own future funeral suggests foreknowledge typically reserved for God alone. The Hispanic guide figure is not clearly identified as an angel. The measuring of movement with an earthly watch and the specific aerial tour over California landmarks seem more evidential than spiritual.
