Esteban, a theoretical physicist and professor, experienced a heart attack on February 5, 1995, while in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Granada, Spain. In this state, he felt immense love for all beings with no possibility of rancor - a perfect state of existence. Time and space had no meaning, which particularly struck him as a physicist. Images of his wife and children came to him but caused no distress, as he understood the eternal wonder awaiting them made earthly concerns insignificant. His primary observation was hearing a woman's voice with a Valencian accent saying, "He's coming back, he's coming back!" as he returned to his body. Upon opening his eyes, he observed doctors surrounding him with defibrillation paddles and various medical equipment used in resuscitation. He experienced both grief and anguish upon returning to his body, not wanting to leave the marvelous state he had been in. The experience profoundly impacted his life. As a theoretical physicist, the sensation of existing outside space-time particularly amazed him. He wrote a book about his experience and gave conferences, including one at the Real Casino of Madrid in October 2005.
