Don S experienced a life-threatening internal hemorrhage twelve hours after being admitted for auto accident injuries in September 1974. Initially treated for lacerations and a cracked pelvis, he used crutches without proper adjustment. Around 2 AM, he woke sweating profusely with dangerously falling blood pressure, prompting the lone nurse to call for help. He passed out and slowly began seeing his hospital room from above, high enough to clearly view all four corners. The image slowly brightened like a movie fade-in. He watched himself in bed and observed the nurse repeatedly taking his blood pressure with great concern. He saw doctors burst in, with his friend arriving first followed by his personal physician. From above, he watched his friend wipe his ankle and make a cut with a scalpel, inserting a small tube while the other doctor stitched it. A nurse brought a bag of blood (his first time seeing blood bags rather than glass containers). He clearly observed the blood bag being connected to the tube in his ankle and his friend squeezing it forcefully. At that moment, his clear aerial view began sparkling intensely until everything went white. The white darkened and he was looking up at the ceiling from his bed, seeing both doctors at his foot. He was immediately rushed to surgery where they discovered his ribs had torn loose from the sternum, with jagged edges creating an inch-long gash in his aorta and ripping one lung. He had pumped himself dry, filling his chest cavity with blood, requiring ten pints to replace. The damage hadn't shown on initial x-rays as the ribs had jumped back into position.
--- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience with maintained consciousness aligns with biblical teaching about the soul's existence independent of the body. The ability to perceive events from an impossible vantage point (aerial view of room) suggests spiritual sight beyond physical limitations. The experience occurred during a genuine life-threatening crisis where he nearly bled to death internally. The calm, emotionless observation from above could reflect the peace that comes with spiritual separation from physical suffering. Unbiblical elements: None identified. This is a straightforward evidential OBE without any religious or spiritual content that would conflict with biblical teaching. No beings, afterlife realms, or spiritual messages appeared. The experience focused entirely on veridical perception of medical procedures, making it evidentially valuable while remaining theologically neutral.
