In June 1979, David was walking across a parking lot when a speeding van hit him and dragged him approximately 75 feet into a muddy lot adjoining a new strip mall. The van became stuck in the mud, then attempted to back up and run over him again but couldn't move. He grabbed onto the grill as he went down and was pulled about 70% under the vehicle. Despite the severity of the incident, he only received superficial wounds and a broken nose.
The remarkable aspect of his experience is that he watched the entire event from the sidewalk, outside his body. He remembers standing there thanking God that the van became stuck and didn't take his life. Everything appeared very clear "like watching a movie on a big screen" and seemed to occur in slow motion. Things seemed louder, and areas outside his field of vision appeared very bright. After observing the incident from the sidewalk, he was suddenly back under the van and woke up at the local hospital. David felt the experience was a blessing from God showing it wasn't his time to die. He can recall it vividly decades later "like it happened yesterday." He continues to have occasional dreams with the same unusual clarity where everything appears crisper than normal. He felt happy and relieved to be alive, experiencing a sense of calm during the out-of-body observation. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience aligns with the biblical concept of the spirit being distinct from the body.
