In 1990, Denise was driving after 2 AM when she hit a telephone pole, totaling her car. She was pronounced dead at the scene and remained clinically dead for twenty minutes before being resuscitated at the hospital. During this time, she experienced floating above her body, watching the firefighters working to save her. She could hear them saying she was gone and observed everything from above, seeing herself covered in blood.
She began floating higher into clouds where she encountered many people, including deceased family members and others she somehow recognized despite not knowing them in life. She then woke up in the hospital, where firefighters later joked about calling her "the walking dead." Following the experience, she developed precognitive abilities, with most of her dreams coming true, including a dream about a hurricane that hit Louisiana. She can sense when people are going to pass away and reports that spirits visit her home regularly. She states with certainty that "There is a Heaven!
