In August 1991, Rachel, a charge nurse, experienced excruciating abdominal pain that had recurred over 6 months. She ended up in the ER bent over in pain, requiring emergency exploratory surgery. Before going under anesthesia, she had a premonition: "Oh my God, I am going to die." Though her body succumbed to anesthetic, she remained aware and disinterested in the surgery below, then began ascending through a tunnel with two male angelic beings escorting her. She knew telepathically they were there. At the tunnel's end, she saw her deceased paternal grandmother radiant and glowing, reaching out with others behind her like a "welcome wagon." She heard her 3-year-old granddaughter saying "Don't go bye bye Memo" - later confirmed that the child was indeed saying this at home during the surgery. Rachel returned to her body in ICU with tubes everywhere.
