Bruce was driving at 30 mph when an oncoming vehicle came around a bend at 50+ mph and crashed head-on into him. He wasn't aware of being hit but knew he wasn't where he was. He felt no pain but was totally at peace, unable to move, talk, or see, yet didn't care. Time had no meaning in this place. He stood/laid/sat simultaneously in a state of pure consciousness. When he asked "Am I dead?" his grandfather, who had passed four months earlier, answered "No!" and when asked "What happens now?" he regained consciousness on the ground surrounded by people who had pulled him from the car, in tremendous pain and shock. The experience gave him renewed faith in God and removed his fear of death, providing him with a "respectful familiarity" with the afterlife and heightened spiritual awareness.
