Romona's NDE occurred on February 2, 2003, when she was trapped under a barge after her aluminum boat struck it. She hit her head on the barge, went underwater, and became trapped beneath it, unable to find her way out despite desperate swimming. After giving up and then making one final attempt to escape for her son's sake, she experienced extreme cold followed by complete calm and happiness. She heard someone say "she has no pulse oh my God" and found herself out of body, feeling incredibly light, free, and content.
