On April 23, 1982, Richard G was thrown from the back of a motorcycle, hitting a car bumper head-first. A neighbor found him without pulse or breathing and performed CPR and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to revive him. He awoke in the hospital three weeks later. During his clinical death, Richard left his body and traveled upward through clouds, arriving at a wall with electrical currents running back and forth across its top.
At this mysterious wall, Richard encountered his grandfather who had died when Richard was six years old. Though his grandfather appeared younger than Richard had ever known him, he recognized him immediately. His grandfather repeatedly told him he could either stay or return to be with his family - it was his choice. He emphasized that Richard was the only person he knew there but was welcome to stay. Richard chose to return to his family, and his grandfather expressed love before sending him back. During his return journey, Richard came down through the clouds and observed an accident scene with people surrounding "someone all bloodied up on the ground," thinking "Bummer" without realizing it was himself. His life flashed before his eyes in an instant during the experience. The three-week coma and successful resuscitation were confirmed. Richard later survived being buried in a trench in 2001 where he felt something grab and pull him to safety, wondering about his purpose after being spared twice. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: Richard's out-of-body experience and journey through clouds to another realm aligns with Paul's account of being caught up to the third heaven. Meeting his deceased grandfather parallels biblical accounts of recognition in the afterlife. The electrical wall could represent a boundary between earthly and heavenly realms. The life review ("life flashed before my eyes") reflects the biblical concept of life accountability. The choice to return for family reflects biblical values of earthly responsibility. Unbiblical elements: None explicitly identified. While communication with the deceased grandfather might raise questions, the grandfather's role was simply to present a choice about returning to family responsibilities, not to provide spiritual teachings or act as a guide. The experience led Richard to wonder about his purpose rather than adopting any unbiblical beliefs.
