On February 15, 1962, Peter suffered a car accident resulting in skull fractures in three places. He lost all blood through eyes, ears, nose and mouth while lying in the road for over forty-five minutes. Police pronounced him dead at the scene. During this time, he experienced comfort beyond physical life, finding himself in darkness with star-like specks of light.
He discovered he was not a physical being but "a pin cushion of electric energy." Another similar being to his right, feeling extremely comforting and closer than any human could be, took him on a determined upward path away from earth. This being telepathically conveyed the concept "FACTORY" - meaning don't feel incomplete or you'll return to the factory. Looking down left, he saw factory buildings with smokestacks and conveyor belts, which matched the industrial town where the hospital was located. Feeling incomplete in some way, he was returned to his physical body. He remained in a coma for three days, then spent six weeks in intensive care.
