Padma fell from the third floor directly onto concrete on February 20, 1959, sustaining multiple fractures and spinal cord rupture with massive hematoma. During emergency treatment, she suddenly found herself on the ceiling looking down at her twisted body. She observed doctors cutting off her clothes and applying traction - a contraption of thick metal rods with heavy chains and metal balls. She was then pulled by a tornado-like force toward a beautiful rotating light that moved like the universe, had life and knowledge, and felt like a loving parent. Though the feeling near the light was indescribably beautiful, she knew going through meant no return. Her worldly obligations, especially finishing school for her parents, made her fight to return. The accident left her paraplegic for a long time. She later developed psychic abilities and had spiritual experiences including seeing Lord Krishna.
