Paul was in a severe car accident on March 22, 2003, sustaining head injuries with the back of his head ripped open. That night at 22:00, his heart stopped and he stopped breathing with a doctor at his bedside who resuscitated him. He was in a coma for 10 days and ICU for 16 days. During his clinical death, Paul found himself standing in a room with a coffin. Jesus stood beside him and told him it was his coffin but he should not be afraid as He had paid for Paul's sins 2000 years ago. Jesus said Paul would not die but must focus on Him and He would bring Paul in contact with people and opportunities to be used by God. Paul felt guilty about past sins including his divorce, but Jesus reassured him of forgiveness. The experience gave Paul certainty that Jesus lives and there is an afterlife.
--- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: This experience strongly aligns with biblical Christianity. The encounter with Jesus Christ, the message of sins being paid for at the crucifixion, the themes of forgiveness and redemption, and being given a divine purpose all correspond directly with New Testament teachings. The experience reinforced Christian faith and led to sharing testimony with others as commanded. Unbiblical elements: None identified. The entire experience reinforces orthodox Christian doctrine including substitutionary atonement, personal encounter with Christ, and evangelistic mission.
