Mikae Y experienced an NDE in September 1990 during a coma resulting from a head injury. The experience centered on a profound reunion with her deceased father who had died twenty years previously, standing alongside her late uncle who had passed about fifteen years earlier.
Upon encountering her father, Mikae was overwhelmed with happiness at seeing him again. Her father, however, was very surprised to see her and immediately asked, "Why are you here?" When she replied that she didn't know, he firmly told her "You must go back." The place where they met was extraordinarily peaceful and wonderful, with all feelings of pain and sadness completely gone. It was a white-colored scene that smelled beautiful. Mikae desperately wanted to remain with her father in that place and refused to return. Her father then yelled at her saying, "You must go, this is not a place for you!" Despite her protests and calling out "Daddy!" she was sent back and awoke from her coma. When Mikae first awoke and saw her family, she immediately said "I met daddy," though everyone assumed she was still dreaming. The experience fulfilled a deep longing she had carried for twenty-two years since her father's death - she had thought about seeing him again almost every day. After the NDE, this constant wish completely disappeared, having been fulfilled through their reunion. The experience brought Mikae incredible peace and joy, a sense of harmony with nature, and understanding about the universe. She felt time moving faster than usual with incredibly vivid senses and saw brilliant, mystical light. Since the NDE, she has become more sensitive to others' feelings and pain, choosing relationships that provide emotional satisfaction. Her religious understanding shifted from traditional Christianity to a more spiritual belief in God. She firmly believes her father continues to watch over her, as many positive things have happened in her life since the experience.
