Kim M experienced a profound NDE during emergency heart surgery complications in November 1987. One week after surgery to replace a failing aortic valve with a plastic St. Jude valve, she suffered a severe complication requiring immediate surgery to release blood collected near her heart that was preventing it from functioning. During the emergency procedure, she entered a large tunnel and saw her deceased mother standing at the end with open arms outstretched. She felt only love and peace and knew it would be sweet to go to her, but consciously chose to return, saying "Not yet. I have to finish my tasks on earth. To be with my family. I will be back later." The experience lasted only seconds from an external perspective but felt much longer subjectively. Kim reports that the experience gave her peace about death and confidence that loved ones will be there when her time comes. She feels it was a blessing and has no fear of death.

--- Biblical Summary ---
Biblical elements: The experience contains several elements consistent with biblical accounts: out-of-body experience during clinical crisis, passage through a tunnel structure, encounter with a deceased relative in a realm of light and peace, conscious choice to return to earthly life, and lasting spiritual transformation. The overwhelming feeling of love and peace aligns with biblical descriptions of divine presence.

Unbiblical elements: None identified. The experience does not contain references to reincarnation, universal salvation, or other concepts contradictory to biblical teaching. The encounter with her deceased mother could be interpreted within biblical frameworks of the afterlife.
