Jorge went to a dentist in Cuba in 1970 for a molar extraction and received local anesthesia that triggered a fatal reaction causing cardiac arrest. He experienced clinical death, leaving his body completely with no physical sensation or awareness of his physical form.
Jorge found himself floating without mass in the air within the dental office. Looking upward, he observed a brilliant light that attracted him despite its intensity. Looking downward, he saw himself in the dentist chair with the dentist frantically trying to revive him and checking for heartbeat. The dentist appeared terrified and later stated Jorge should have disclosed being a cardiac risk. The experience was characterized by feelings of abandonment, relaxation, and happiness that Jorge found difficult to describe. He wanted to remain in that condition of peaceful floating. Suddenly, he rapidly descended and re-entered his body, awakening from the marvelous sensation.
