Hessie was nine years old when she was run over by an automobile in summer 1987. The driver struck her once, causing her to go under the vehicle, then hit her a second time, throwing her approximately fifteen feet into a driveway where she lost consciousness.

During her NDE, Hessie found herself in what appeared to be a rose garden with extraordinary beauty. She could see nothing but rose bushes and brilliant white light - no soil or grass was visible. The environment was foggy yet very bright, and everything seemed to glow with an otherworldly quality. She discovered a bench and sat down, overwhelmed with happiness that made her cry tears of joy.

A man then came and sat beside her on the bench. Though she could not see his face clearly, she knew in her heart without fear that he was Jesus. Communication occurred through her mind rather than spoken words. Jesus told her it wasn't her time and that her family was waiting for her. When she begged to stay with him, expressing how wonderful she felt and how she never wanted to leave, he gently but firmly insisted she had to return. The sadness she felt at having to leave was extreme.

Hessie's next memory was awakening in the driveway at the accident scene. Since the experience, she developed an ability to sense good or evil in people just by looking into their eyes, an ability she never had before and which has proven consistently accurate. She also became sensitive to when family members are upset or in pain, feeling compelled to reach out to them. The experience left her with complete certainty about its reality and the continuation of consciousness after death.
