Gabby was in the intensive care unit on March 10, 2005, with a pulmonary embolism. Initially not in respiratory distress, she suddenly felt her body becoming very heavy and sinking. She no longer felt the need to breathe and could feel her heart rate slowing significantly. Despite sensing that her oxygen level was low, she experienced no urge to breathe as most people would in that situation. An extraordinary calmness overcame her that she describes as beyond words - no adjectives could capture this type of calm feeling.
She began seeing several doors made of straw-like material circling in front of her as if on a merry-go-round. These doors were all connected to each other, forming a constant chain of straw doors. As she watched these doors, the calmness she felt was extraordinary. Somehow she knew that if she chose to go through one of these doors, she would die but continue experiencing this peaceful, calm, unbelievable feeling. She doesn't know who was telling her this but knew it was either a deceased relative or some spiritual message, despite not being a very religious person. The experience ended when respiratory and low oxygen alarms went off, and the nurse returned to replace her oxygen. The experience was a gift to her because she is no longer afraid to die. She gained special understanding that humans are here on earth for one purpose: to perpetuate human kindness so that humanity can continue to exist. This is our sole purpose - we continue to be born so there is a continual supply of human kindness to combat the dangers of our world. She sensed the presence of beings during her experience. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The experience includes supernatural peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7), awareness of the choice between life and death, sensing spiritual presences or deceased relatives as messengers, and gaining insight about human purpose centered on kindness and love. The elimination of death anxiety aligns with biblical promises about eternal life. The doors could symbolize choices or passages between realms. Unbiblical elements: The concept that our "sole purpose" is perpetuating human kindness, while valuable, is incomplete from a biblical perspective which emphasizes glorifying God and relationship with Him. The idea of continuous rebirth to supply kindness hints at reincarnation concepts not found in scripture. However, these interpretations may be her personal understanding rather than direct revelations.
