In summer 1959, eight-year-old Elsa was drowning in a swimming pool while the lifeguard, distracted in conversation, failed to notice her distress. After inhaling water, she was lifted above the pool and drawn through a tunnel reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. She experienced a terrifying dark place with crawling things and moaning sounds, prompting her to call out "Help me God." She then encountered deceased individuals who knew her name, including her grandfather shown holding her as an infant.
Most significantly, she met whom she believes was Jesus, who showed her life review focusing on her misbehavior toward her mother. Each time she tried to defend herself, she saw events through His eyes and asked forgiveness. Jesus explained how some people didn't believe in Him, showing her prayers as beams of light from Earth. He revealed the entire universe's workings to her in simple, comprehensible terms. He then showed her two future sons - one who would initially not believe in God and hurt Him, but would later become a wonderful speaker in an auditorium with an captivated audience, redeeming himself. The other son would be "fine and upstanding." When she wanted to stay, Jesus showed her mother crying, explaining her departure would break her mother's heart. Motivated by not wanting to hurt her mother and excited about her future children, she agreed to return. She caught the pool's edge and was rescued by the embarrassed lifeguard. The experience was forgotten until 1973 when hearing about NDEs triggered complete recall. Following the experience, she noticed enhanced beauty in nature, found favor with previously indifferent peers, and developed deep engagement with Bible school teachings.
