Ben Breedlove was an 18-year-old with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who experienced multiple near-death episodes. On December 6, 2011, while walking in a school hallway, he suddenly felt faint and collapsed into cardiac arrest. Medical personnel worked to resuscitate him with shock paddles while he was unconscious for three minutes without breathing or pulse.
During this time, Ben found himself in an endless white room with no walls that extended infinitely. He was wearing a nice suit and was accompanied by his favorite rapper Kid Cudi, who was also dressed formally. Looking in a mirror that appeared before him, Ben felt overwhelming pride in his entire life and everything he had accomplished. The peaceful feeling he experienced was identical to one he had felt at age four during another medical crisis when he saw a bright light that his mother could not see. In this white space, Kid Cudi brought him to a glass desk and placed his hand on Ben's shoulder. At that moment, his favorite song "Mr. Rager" began playing, specifically the lyrics "When will the fantasy end, when will the heaven begin?" Kid Cudi then told him "Go now," at which point Ben woke up to find EMS performing CPR on him. Ben reported that during the experience he heard the medical team say "He's not breathing, his heart is stopped and he has no pulse." He also heard them preparing the defibrillator, with one saying "They are ready" and another responding "Go!" before the shock was administered. The experience left him not wanting to return to life, and he posted a video about it to YouTube a week before dying permanently on Christmas Day 2011.
