Ian McCormack, a 26-year-old atheist from New Zealand, was night diving for lobster off Mauritius on April 19, 1982, when he was stung by five box jellyfish - creatures whose neurotoxin is 100 times more lethal than a cobra. One sting can kill within five minutes. As the poison paralyzed his body, he heard God's voice three times warning him not to close his eyes and later to forgive those who refused him help. After being pushed from a taxi and left to die, he finally reached the hospital where his heart stopped after failed medical intervention. Declared dead for 20 minutes, his spirit left his body and entered complete darkness where he heard men screaming that he was in hell.
A pure light pierced the darkness from above, lifting him through a tunnel toward its source. Waves of comfort, peace, and joy enveloped him as he traveled toward the light. He emerged before Jesus, whose white hair and face shone brighter than the sun. During his life review, he saw how he had corrupted youth with drugs, betrayed family and friends, and lived selfishly. Overwhelmed by God's unconditional love despite his sins, he wept as God told him all his sins were forgiven when he prayed in the ambulance. Jesus showed him paradise - a new Earth with crystal rivers, trees of life, and new heavens. When given the choice to stay or return, Ian saw a vision of his praying mother and millions of others who needed to hear about Jesus. He returned to his body in the morgue, terrifying the doctor who was beginning an autopsy. Within hours, his entire body was supernaturally healed through what felt like electricity, and he walked out the next day completely restored. In the following nights, he experienced intense spiritual warfare, seeing demons attempting to return to him, but discovered the power of Jesus' name and the Lord's Prayer for protection. His mother later confirmed she had heard God's audible voice telling her Ian was dying and to pray for him at the exact time of his crisis.
