On April 22, 2006, fifty-one-year-old Lori K. suffered catastrophic injuries when a vehicle struck her while she was standing on a corner. The impact resulted in multiple severe injuries including a double cranial fracture and multiple bone fractures throughout her body. The severity of her injuries led to a profound near-death experience during which she encountered Jesus and was given the choice to return to life. The medical trauma was extreme, with her injuries being life-threatening and requiring extensive medical intervention.
During her NDE, Lori found herself in the presence of Jesus in what she described as a beautiful field or garden. The environment felt perfect, like home, filled with an overwhelming sense of belonging and peace. Behind Jesus stood a large archway or gateway, and beyond it, she could see all her deceased relatives waiting for her, including her grandfather and father-in-law among others. The gathering of loved ones created a powerful pull toward the afterlife, yet Jesus engaged her in a dialogue about her readiness to remain. The experience included a profound moment of life assessment when Jesus asked if she was ready to stay. Lori reflected that it seemed like a beautiful day to die - the weather was perfect with sun, a nice breeze, neither too hot nor cold. She examined her life and realized she had no unfinished business, was not angry at anyone, and could not think of anyone angry at her. She expressed confidence that her family and friends knew who she was, what she stood for, and how she felt about them. Initially, she seemed accepting of death, noting she thought she would be older when she passed, having just turned fifty-one, the same age her grandmother had died. However, her maternal love ultimately guided her decision. She expressed her deep love for her fifteen-year-old daughter Hannah and her desire to see her grow up, get married, and have children. She also mentioned her love for her husband Steve and all her adult children, plus her anticipation of a grandson soon to be born whom she wanted to meet. She told Jesus she still had X-rays to shoot and puppet shows to perform. When she asked to return, Jesus granted her request, telling her she had work to do. He instructed her to stay awake and promised to take care of and restore everything. Her return was described as fast, like going down a grand slide back into her broken body.
