Former California Highway Patrol officer Robert Bare suffered a massive heart attack after boarding an airplane in 2009 and was clinically dead for approximately 45 minutes. He had a second NDE that same day lasting around 10 minutes. During his first NDE, while doctors worked on resuscitating him, he gravitated up seeing colors that don't exist in this realm and ended up in the presence of a Higher Power he could not look at directly. He sensed an audience of spirits who seemed to know him well.
His life review began from conception, and he saw his parents outside an old black Chevrolet the day they learned his mother was pregnant. His father later confirmed this scene with a photograph Robert had never seen, revealing they got married after learning of the pregnancy - a family secret. The review included feeling not only his own emotions but also those of everyone he interacted with. At age five, he stole baseball cards and lied about it, experiencing the store owner's thoughts: "Heck! He's five years old! Just give me the nickel!" He heard his childhood friend with hemophilia say "You were my best friend!" and could taste the cherry Kool-Aid his friend's mother made. As a Highway Patrol officer, he saw an incident where a man ran toward him with a rifle after being robbed. Though he could have been justified in shooting, he didn't, and heard the man's voice say "Thank you for not shooting me!" He saw his deceased dog Scooter from 2001, fidgeting and wanting to come to him. In another incident, he correctly suspected a burned car victim was murdered (later confirmed by autopsy finding bullets), and heard the victim say "Thank you for what you did for my mother!" Multiple specific details were verified: his parents confirmed the conception scene and photograph, his father told him his friend Paul had died of AIDS from tainted blood, and the murder victim case was confirmed. The experience profoundly transformed him - he now does volunteer work with homeless veterans and reports permanent improved vision after his NDE.
