Cristal was sleeping at her grandmother's house when she awoke struggling to breathe from an asthma attack. As someone with lifelong asthma, attacks weren't unusual, especially at her grandmother's house due to the cat. However, this attack was different - she tried to sit up and ask for her inhaler but couldn't move or speak. Realizing she was dying, her last thought was not wanting her grandmother to wake up and find her dead beside her.
Her spirit then left her body, and she observed herself lying lifelessly next to her grandmother. She could see the entire room and specifically noticed the clock showing 4:37am. She ascended through the ceiling to the outside, where she could see the entire neighborhood, noting which lights were on in neighbors' houses and the night sky above. She then began moving rapidly toward the sky, with stars passing quickly by her, accelerating as she went higher. She encountered a brilliant light unlike anything on Earth - the brightest, softest, whitest, most peaceful light imaginable that would be blinding here but wasn't there. Moving through this light, she encountered a presence she believed to be God. She felt overwhelming peace and never wanted to leave. A conversation ensued where she asked why she had to return and why she couldn't stay. Though she doesn't remember the specific answer, she was told she had to go back. The return journey was even faster than the ascent. She re-entered her body and sat up, very short of breath but aware of everything that had happened. She wanted to wake her grandmother but thought she'd think it was just a dream. She found her inhaler and noted it was about 5:00am.
