Beverly Brodsky, a 20-year-old Jewish atheist, suffered a fractured skull and multiple facial injuries in a Los Angeles motorcycle accident in July 1970. She was hospitalized for two weeks, then sent home. Overwhelmed by pain and despair about her disfigurement, she prayed to die. She then experienced leaving her body and being joined by a radiant being who guided her through a tunnel toward an incredibly brilliant light. She recognized this as God and engaged in telepathic communication, receiving answers to all her questions including about the Holocaust. She was given all knowledge and experienced a journey through the universe, visiting stars being born and supernovas. She reached the center of creation and experienced union with God, filled with all love and knowledge. The experience was transformative - she returned without pain for two months, got a job while still bandaged, overcame her shyness, reconciled with her mother, started college at 23 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She married, had children, and pursued a successful career. Twenty years later she remained certain of the experience's reality.
