Steve, a computer software engineer, underwent oral surgery in 1975 to remove impacted wisdom teeth. The procedure required unusually high doses of anesthesia (four cartridges of sodium pentothal) and took two hours. In the recovery room, Steve awakened blinded by white light that pushed through his entire body beyond his optic nerve. He rose and saw a beautiful being clothed in light wearing a white gown that gave off its own radiance. Her inner light flooded into him with astonishing beauty and love.
Looking back at the recovery couch, Steve saw his body lying under a blanket while standing beside this being of light. She intercepted his thoughts, reassuring him he wasn't dead but his breathing was irregular and might stop. She said she was there to stabilize it because "you are very valuable and no one is willing to take chances with your life." She led him through two walls to where a veil of energy separated her world from his, explaining it was a one-way path from which there was no return if crossed. The being showed him details about his future children and revealed a beautiful vision of his future wife. Steve felt wonderful clarity, brightness, colors, light and calmness - as if that moment was in color while the rest of life was drab and grey. The being indicated this was not his first encounter with such light. As his breathing stabilized, her light withdrew and he awakened to his wife holding his face. Following this and earlier light experiences, Steve's personality changed dramatically. His family considered him weak and unable to succeed in business despite his effectiveness. His ability to see the future and respond to people's inner thoughts rather than their words disturbed everyone. He began intensive self-education, learning languages, studying philosophy, physics, and eventually designing electronics and microprocessors. He became hypersensitive to violence and suffering, unable to watch TV shows depicting killing or attend church services focused on guilt and shame.
