Neev, a high school sophomore playing first base, was severely injured when a burly catcher violently collided with him. He sustained a compound skull fracture with grotesque facial swelling and internal hemorrhaging. During his unconscious state in the emergency room, Neev found himself floating above his body, observing medical staff working on him with his face massively swollen.
From his out-of-body position, he witnessed his body on a gurney with IV bottles and blood, heard monitors beeping, and remarkably saw his grandmother trying to find his mother down a corridor over 100 yards away through multiple rooms and doors - something physically impossible from his location. When moved for X-rays, he entered complete darkness described as comfortable and pain-free, like being in a womb, feeling perfect love and warmth. He then moved through a dark tunnel with difficulty, seeing a tiny light that grew larger as he progressed. Emerging into brilliant orange-yellow sunlight-like illumination, he found himself gliding above a golden road. Everything appeared golden as far as he could see. He encountered white clouded figures who gave him warmth and love, then met a being he understood to be God who communicated telepathically. When asked if he wanted to return, Neev initially refused, wanting to stay in that peaceful state free from hurt and suffering. The being insisted he had a purpose to fulfill in life. Following his NDE, Neev transformed completely - from an introverted, antisocial underachiever with chronic physical problems to an optimistic, socially confident person free of previous ailments. His migraines, anxiety, and clumsiness disappeared. He developed empathy, lost his fear of death, abandoned competitive drives, became generous with time and possessions, and found meaning in helping others through philanthropy and soup kitchen work.
