Anni was thirty years old in 1974 when she suffered a life-threatening complication during a medical procedure that rendered her unconscious. The crisis occurred unexpectedly during what should have been a routine procedure.
During her unconscious state, Anni was shown her entire life from birth to the moment of unconsciousness. She found herself evaluating her life from "the wrong side" - seeing herself objectively rather than through her usual subjective perspective. This led to profound shame as she realized "I was not as good as I thought I was." However, she encountered a "being of love" who didn't judge her but instead supported her with love. She discovered that not only actions but also thoughts were being evaluated, and surprisingly, "the thoughts meant more than the actions." She learned it was wrong to "smile politely at someone while sending negative thoughts to them." The experience revealed she had much improvement needed as a human being, though she was also shown the good things she had done. Anni's veridical observations included seeing her complete life history with access to both actions and the thoughts behind them. She gained knowledge that thoughts carry more weight than actions in moral evaluation. She experienced the presence of a loving being who provided support without judgment. Most remarkably, she discovered that hidden thoughts and intentions, which she believed were private, were fully visible and counted more significantly than outward behaviors. The experience left Anni with a profound understanding that authentic kindness requires alignment between thoughts and actions, and that spiritual development involves improving both behavior and inner attitudes.
