Monique Hennequin, age 31, underwent a cesarean section that led to severe complications including intestinal perforation and peritonitis. Several hours after delivering a healthy baby boy, she developed severe abdominal cramps that worsened despite pain medication. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, requiring another abdominal operation. She developed multi-organ failure with kidney dysfunction, plummeting potassium levels, and potentially fatal cardiac arrhythmia, requiring artificial respiration.
After days in critical condition with doctors informing her family she was unlikely to survive, Monique suffered a cardiac arrest. During this event, she experienced leaving her body and observing the ICU from an external perspective. She saw two nurses rush from an adjacent room to attend to her body after hearing the flatline alarm. She experienced a comprehensive life review where she relived events from her past with complete understanding of how her actions affected others. She felt everything as though going back in time, experiencing not only her own emotions but also the pain, anger, and sadness of people affected by her words and actions. During her experience, she perceived herself ascending through a spectrum of light and encountered what she described as an infinite river of brilliance composed of conscious particles. She recognized elements of deceased individuals including her younger brother who had died before she was born. She experienced a moment of eternal omniscience and complete oneness with universal consciousness. Later, in desperation to return to this peaceful state, she bit through her breathing tube, precipitating another crisis and a second NDE where she encountered her deceased father in a darker dimension. Upon recovery, Monique found herself profoundly transformed. She struggled to express the ineffable nature of her experience and spent years searching for information about consciousness, physics, and spirituality. Her experience convinced her that consciousness is eternal and that death is merely a transition. She reported that the experience taught her about the interconnectedness of all things and the importance of love, honesty, and taking responsibility for one's thoughts and actions.
