The core experience involved traveling to a boundary separating earthly from eternal realms, described as "a kind of iron fence." Waiting on the other side was a specific, recognizable individual: "Mr. Van der G., the father of my parents' best friend." This was not a generic spirit or unknown being, but someone known from life who acted as a gatekeeper. Mr. Van der G. delivered a clear message that the man could not cross the barrier and "had to go back because my time hadn't come yet." This interaction at a definitive border with instructions to return represents a classic near-death experience element. The most evidentially significant aspect is the veridical information acquired. The crucial observation was seeing and interacting with Mr. Van der G. in the afterlife. Upon waking and recounting the vision to his parents, they provided startling verification: "Mr. Van der G. had died and been buried during my coma."
